Week?!)...

Take a bite out of the summer doldrums and buzz over for Pest Fest, where
you will be eye to compound eye with the stars of these classic camp
features. Film scholar David Wilt will offer brief introductions to each
of these vintage horror films from the dawn of the nuclear age.
Them, 1954
Thursday, June 15
Talk about your great ants! People start disappearing into a New Mexican
desert near a site where there has been nuclear testing. Local police, the
FBI, and specialists from the Department of Agriculture join forces to get
to the bottom of the mystery. Gordon Douglas's classic is no picnic!
Mothra, 1961
Thursday, June 29
Ishiro Honda followed 1950s favorites Godzilla and Rodan with another
terror in Tokyo. An expedition to a Polynesian island discovers three
things: the island is inhabited by shipwreck survivors; the spot was a
nuclear test site but something protected the crew from the radiation; and
the pair of tiny, faerie-like “princesses” they find are telepathically
connected to the behemoth, Mothra.
Beginning of the End, 1957
Thursday, July 6
An experiment at the Department of Agriculture goes wrong and spawns a
swarm of huge, man-eating grasshoppers that is headed for Chicago. A B-52
bomber with an atomic load may be the last resort unless entomologist Dr.
Ed Wainwright (Peter Graves) can save the day in what in some consider
Bert I. Gordon's best creature feature. Print courtesy of Peter Rodgers
