16TH ANNUAL NATIVE PLANTS IN THE LANDSCAPE CONFERENCE AT MILLERSVILLE

Continuing Education Credits available through the Pennsylvania State 
Board of Landscape Architects, the New Jersey Landscape Architect 
Evaluation and Examination Committee, the Pennsylvania Landscape and 
Nursery Association, and Millersville University.

Costs: $185 for a comprehensive double (housing and meals included); $215 
for a comprehensive single; $155 for a commuter (no housing). For an 
optional pre-conference field trip or workshop, add $50.

This year's exciting Conference will include expert speakers, field trips, 
workshops, chat rooms and educational exhibits. Native plants from a 
number of well-known vendors, as well as related books and merchandise 
will be offered for sale. Plenty of time is available for networking and 
socializing.

The Conference provides a fertile environment for a varied audience to 
expand their knowledge of regionally appropriate native plants and 
sustainable landscapes. Attendees include home and professional gardeners, 
teachers and students, as well as landscape, nursery, botanic garden and 
environmental professionals. Among various informative speakers and 
workshops, the program will feature,

  - Leslie Sauer, landscape designer and restoration expert, and author of 
The Once and Future Forest: A Guide to Forest Restoration Strategies.
  - Jim Plyler, Owner, Natural Landscapes native plant nursery and local 
native, woody plant expert
  - Dr. Bernd Blossey, Cornell University, researcher on the impact and 
control of invasive plants
  - Dr. Steven Handel, Rutgers University, pioneer in the restoration of 
urban landscapes

Other topics include:  Rain Gardens, Green Roofs, Cedar Bogs, Lichens and 
Mosses, Fungi, Native Azaleas, Milkweed for Monarchs, Grasses and Sedges, 
and Native Orchids.

Pre-conference workshops offer the choice of (1) a trip to local private, 
native plant gardens; (2) a native plant 'adventure;' (3) plant 
propagations; and (4) a workshop on designing with natives. Entertaining 
and informative evening programs will include a panel discussion among 
managers of noted local public gardens, and popular speaker Carol Reese on 
the subject of Titillating Liaisons Between Flowers and People, each to be 
followed by a networking, social event.

The Native Plant Sale will be open to the public during select hours for 
those who wish to purchase native plants but cannot attend the Conference. 
Hours for the public plant sale are Friday, June 2, from 3:30 - 7:00 PM 
and Saturday, June 3  from 8 AM - Noon.

The Native Plants in the Landscape Conference is co-sponsored by Bartram's 
Garden, Mt. Cuba Center, New Moon Nursery, US National Arboretum, and 
Millersville University's Departments of Biology and of Professional 
Training and Development.
