Greetings all:

I'm pleased to announce a permanent subject-to-furlough crew member
position opening with the Mid-Atlantic Exotic Plant Management Team,
stationed in Luray, Virginia. The position is a biological science
technician (GS-0404-5/6/7). It is being advertised at the GS-5/6 grade
levels (~$26,700 - $38,700) with noncompetitive promotion potential to the
GS-7 level. The team works four 10-hour days, Monday through Thursday. Our
work is on-site at any of twelve national parks in Virginia, Maryland and
Pennsylvania. A majority of work is away from station, entailing three
nights per week away from home paid by the program.

The position requires a high level of physical exertion. Daily tasks
(taken on an annual basis) include about 30% site monitoring
(forestry/botanical field survey, GPS and GIS documentation, data entry
into
electronic databases, and data analysis) and about 70% exotic plant control
(hand cutting, hand pulling, cutting with power tools, and herbicide
application). Incumbents should be unafraid to work in remote settings
where
poisonous vegetation, insects and reptiles are present. Come experience the
wonderful biodiversity and beauty of the coastal plain, Piedmont plateau,
and ridge/valley environmental settings in the Mid-Atlantic region.

The position vacancy will be open November 1 - 15, 2004. You may
obtain added application detail at the USA Jobs website for vacancy
announcement number SHEN DEU 2004-38. (
