Pioneer Grants Program
The Chesapeake Bay Trust, a private, nonprofit, grant-making organization,
announces a request for preproposals for its Pioneer Grants Program. The
Pioneer Grants Program was established by the Board of Trustees to
encourage and promote innovative ideas, creative partnerships, and
cutting-edge projects that will lead to the achievement of Chesapeake 2000
Agreement restoration and protection goals, and support the Trust's mission
of involving the citizens of Maryland in the effort to bring back the Bay.

The 2004 Pioneer Grants Program is designed to help organizations complete
projects and develop replicable, long-term implementation strategies that
result in measurable non-point source nutrient reductions. The Trust has
targeted $100,000 for the Pioneer Grants Program for projects and
innovative implementation strategies that meet this goal.
The objectives of the Pioneer Grants Program are:

      Complete on-the-ground restoration projects that achieve reductions
      in non-point source pollution;

      Develop an implementation strategy that spells out how the applicant
      and its partners intend to work toward replicating these nutrient
      reduction projects on a larger geographic scale to achieve measurable
      nutrient pollution reductions;

      Guide the implementation of the strategy to increase the number of
      on-the-ground nutrient reduction projects (Trust financial support
      will be available to assist in the implementation process); and,

      Create effective partnerships and engage more Marylanders in the
      completion of the on-the-ground projects and the implementation of
      the strategy.
