We collected stems of seed heads in the field and brought them into the lab to strip the heads. Rawlins, Wyoming is very windy most days so we felt we had a better opportunity to acquire seed that way, rather than lost the seed to the wind. </div>

You're correct that all grasses should be hand stripped before sending to Bend. I understand folks have less time and hands in the field these days, but I always encourage hand stripping on site whenever possible rather than cutting and bringing back to the
office. </div>

<div class="x_x_gmail_default" style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif">Can anyone offer advice on how to tell when Poa secunda seed is ready to collect? I assume that if the inflorescence is falling apart that it's probably dispersing and therefore ready,
but can it be picked any earlier than that? Does it after-ripen at all? Should I be stripping inflorescences in the field or taking whole ones? I was guessing Bend would want them stripped, but does that affect ripening?</div>
