<div dir="ltr">SOS Monthly Collectors Call<br><br>July 2, 2013<br><br>There were 39 participants from 23 offices.<br><br><b>Data Sheets </b>– Commonly skipped or incorrectly completed fields include the following:<br><br>Date: Please pay special attention to the format indicated on the data sheet (month/day/year)<br>
<br>Landowner and Permission: For collections made on BLM land, enter ‘BLM’. For public land collections, enter the land managing agency’s acronym: USFS, DOD, FWS, etc. Permission is needed to collect on all private and public land managed by any agency other than BLM. Permission should be obtained in writing and kept on file at the collecting team’s office. <br>
<br>Associated Species: List all plants found coexisting with the collected species. Example: Salix sp., Hordeum jubatum, and Polygonumalpinum. Note: please do not use USDA plants codes here, spell out the entire plant names.<br>
<br>Lat/Long: Direction from the equator (N/S) and Direction from the Prime Meridian (E/W), degree, minute, and second.<br><br>Geology: The mineral structure of the collection site, either a formation type or specific rock. Example: granite, limestone or sandstone.<br>
<br># Plants found: Total number of plants living at the collection site; this number includes those plants whose seeds are not ripe for collection on collection day.<br> <br>Area Sampled: In acres, the size of the area in which the collection was made. Since collections should be made from the entire population, this number should be very close to the actual population size, in acres.<br>
<br>BACK OF SHEET<br> Herbarium voucher specimens<br> Specialist identification<br><br><b>Photos</b> – Please use the naming convention as stated in section 12 of the SOS Protocol.<br><br>Digital photos of the species being collected should always be taken while in the field. At least three photos should be taken for each collection:<br>
<br>Landscape Level/Population<br>Individual Plant<br>Material Collected (seed)<br><br>The following naming convention should be used for all SOS photos and each photo should be given a unique picture number (A, B, C, etc): PLANTS Code_Collection Number_Picture Number <br>
<br>Send images to the SOS National Coordinating Office on CD or DVD via FedEx<br><br><b>Herbarium labels and transmittal notices </b>- Only need to be sent to do not need to be sent to the National Coordination Office. <br><b>Clearance forms</b> – Require at least 1 month processing time. Please do not put ASAP on your clearance form. Please fill out the clearance form in word so edits can be made at the National Coordination Office.<br>
<br><b>Reminders from the Bend Seed Extractory:</b><br>1) do not put seed in ziplock bags as seed tends to mold;<br>2) be careful not to include any inert material in bags (especially rocks, sunglasses, clippers, etc.).<br>
3) Quarantining seed with no pest strips for 48 hours – please make a note on the data sheet to let Bend know you have done this. They can be cut and put into individual seed bags or reused for up to a year. <div><br></div>
