<span style="font-size: 9.5pt; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; color: rgb(34, 34, 34);" class="ContentPasted0">The Buzzards Bay Coalition together with project partners including the New Bedford Harbor Trustee Council, NOAA Restoration Center, and MA Division
of Ecological Restoration, sought to restore approximately 12 acres of salt marsh on the peninsula known as Marsh Island located at the junction of the Acushnet River and New Bedford Harbor in Fairhaven, Massachusetts. This would be achieved by removing historically
placed dredged material to re-introduce tidal hydrology, re-establishing intertidal elevations, creating other vegetated upland habitats, and installing passive recreation features, thereby providing enhanced ecological services, recreation opportunities,
and long-term climate resilience. The project will create vital fish nursery habitat, enhance water quality, provide needed sandy material for nearby marsh restoration projects, as well as build upon the significant investment over the past decade to improve
water quality, expand fish passage, and permanently protect natural shorelines in Buzzards Bay. Phase 1 of the project was officially completed in November 2023, restoring approximately 6 acres of the impaired salt marsh. Join us on a tour of the project design
and videography of implementation for Phase 1 in this effort to provide rare coastal marsh and habitat within the highly urbanized, developed harbor.<o:p class="ContentPasted0"></o:p></span></p>
