Includes a full day in the field applying the concepts learned during classroom sessions.<br><br><a name="slo"></a>SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY FLORA – taught by Dave Keil<br>April 2-5, San Luis Obispo, CA<br>Learn the local plants with local expert Dave Keil on excursions to some of the most spectacular natural areas that define San Luis Obispo county. Workshop begins with an introductory afternoon lecture, followed by 3 full days in the field exploring diverse plant communities throughout the county.<br><br><a name="vernal"></a>VERNAL POOL PLANT TAXONOMY – taught by Carol Witham & Jennifer Buck-Diaz<br>April 16-18, UC Davis & Vernal Pools in Solano, Sacramento, & Yolo Counties, CA<br>This workshop combines lab and field studies of the taxonomy of vernal pool plants with a focus on difficult genera. Diverse field sites will maximize exposure to a wide range of plant species including several rare taxa.<br><br><a name="veg"></a>VEGETATION RAPID ASSESSMENT/RELEVÉ – taught by Jennifer Buck-Diaz & Rachelle Boul<br>May 1-3, San Luis Obispo, CA<br>This course is a combination of lecture and field exercises in vegetation sampling with a focus on collecting data using the CNPS-CDFW combined vegetation rapid assessment/relevé method.<br><br><a name="intros"></a>INTRO TO PLANT IDENTIFICATION – taught by Nick Jensen & Sandy Namoff<br>June 5-7, Big Bear area, CA<br>Through classroom/lab and field exercises in the San Bernardino Mountains, learn to identify plants in 15 common California plant families, which account for more than 70% of the plant diversity in California. Basic plant morphology/terminology and how to use dichotomous keys will be covered. </p><p class="MsoNormal"><br><a name="intron"></a>INTRO TO PLANT IDENTIFICATION – taught by Josie Crawford<br>July 10-12, Truckee, CA<br>Through classroom/lab and field exercises in the Sierra Nevada, learn the characteristics of 8 common California plant families, reducing the amount of time required to key most plants to genus and species. Basic plant morphology/terminology and how to use dichotomous keys will be covered.<br><br><a name="wetland"></a>WETLAND/RIPARIAN PLANT IDENTIFICATION – taught by David Magney<br>August 7-9, Imperial Beach, CA<br>This intensive intermediate plant identification course emphasizes riparian/wetland plant recognition and ecology, and covers common and rare species.
