<P>Assistant Seed Collector/Taxonomist</P></B></U>

<P>NYC is entering an unprecedented period of growth and development as part of PlaNYC 2030- the most sweeping plan to enhance the City's urban environment in modern history! </P>

<P>Under supervision, assist with all activities associated with managing the seed collection for the agency's Greenbelt Native Plant Center, located on Staten Island. Assist with collecting seed and scouting the New York City region for plant populations for collections; accurately field and lab identify native plants. Process and store collected seed, assist in maintenance of seed bank and conduct periodic testing of seed viability. Supervise nursery staff in collection and processing of seed. Enter collection and seed data into nursery databases. Drive vehicles and operate any other motorized equipment incidental to the performance of duties. </P><U>

<P>Minimum Requirements</U>: One year of full-time experience in gardening work, including experience in each of the following: planting, cultivating and caring for trees, plants, shrubs and lawns; or Thirty credits, at least fifteen of which must pertain to horticulture, agriculture or a related field from an accredited college or community college; or a certificate from a recognized horticultural or botanical program; or Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" or "2" above. Motor vehicle Driver License valid in the state of New York. </P><U>

<P>Preferred Skills</U>: Bachelor's degree or graduate degree with emphasis in botany, ecology or related fields. Strong taxonomic skills, including formal class and fieldwork in plant taxonomy and plant identification. Familiarity with the local flora of the New York City region. Experience in plant community delineation and field data collection. Experience with Microsoft Access, Excel, and Word. Experience with Global Positioning Systems (GPS). </P>
