to interact in an interdisciplinary setting to experience state-of-the
art science and engineering planning and policy in a partnership environment
and to formulate goals and approaches to ecosystem restoration. Two dominant
conference themes are ‘spirit of cooperation’ and ‘integrating partnerships,’
which apply to all levels of ecosystem restoration, from the smallest local
resident </font><font size=3 color=red face="Times New Roman">stewardship</font><font size=3 face="Times New Roman">
to the largest basin application. Everyone is important to the success
of ecosystem restoration.</font>
<p><font size=4 color=#006e85 face="Times New Roman"><b><u>Who Will Attend?</u></b></font><font size=3>
</font><font size=3 face="Times New Roman"><br>
NCER provides a forum for physical, biological and social scientists, engineers,
resource managers and decision-makers to share their knowledge and establish
future priorities for ecosystem restoration throughout the United States.
Attendees will include:</font>

policy managers</font>
<li><font size=3 face="Times New Roman">tribal governments</font>
<li><font size=3 face="Times New Roman">ecological scientists & researchers</font>
<li><font size=3 face="Times New Roman">hydrological modelers</font>
<li><font size=3 face="Times New Roman">university students, faculty &
researchers</font>
<li><font size=3 face="Times New Roman">environmental interest groups</font></ul>
<p><font size=3 face="Times New Roman">Federal agencies in attendance should
include, but not be limited to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Geological
Survey, Environmental Protection Agency, Natural Resource Conservation
Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and others. About 52% of the 1^st
NCER attendees were from Federal agencies and a similar attendance is expected
this time. </font>
<p><font size=3 face="Times New Roman">This conference is intended for
everyone, from the individual landowner to the largest hydrological unit
consortium such as those representing the Missouri River basin or the Great
Lakes region. The conference should also appeal to city, state and county
governments, and private companies, consultants and non-government groups
which accounted for about 15.5% and 26.5% of the 1^st NCER respectively.
We anticipate 1,000-1,200 attendees.</font>
<p><font size=3 face="Times New Roman"> </font><font size=3> </font><font size=4 color=#006e85 face="Times New Roman"><b><u><br>
Call for Abstracts – Due October 15, 2006</u></b></font><font size=3>
</font><font size=3 face="Times New Roman"><br>
Those involved in restoration efforts are strongly encouraged to submit
abstracts describing their projects. Special consideration will be given
to work that requires developing and maintaining partnerships and a spirit
of cooperation. Abstract submissions will be used by the committee to select
oral and poster presentations. Oral sessions will emphasize issues faced
by large-scale ecosystem restoration, particularly those topics that contribute
to our knowledge of lessons learned and the roles of policy, planning,
and science in establishing goals and performance measures for achieving
sustainable restoration in ecosystems managed for multiple purposes. There
will also be sessions focused on innovative approaches to restoration at
any project scale; especially those encouraging partnerships, new techniques
and how restoration programs can be build through evaluation of the cumulative
results of individual restoration projects. The conference will have interactive
sessions for nation-wide collaboration among multi-scale ecosystem restoration
projects. </font>
<p><font size=3 face="Times New Roman">All abstracts, both oral and poster,
will be published in the conference book of abstracts, and will be posted
on the web site following the conference. Poster presentations provide
a valuable opportunity for scientific interaction. Poster sessions also
provide an excellent opportunity to provide status updates on programs.
Posters will be prominently featured at two separate sessions and receptions
held in the Exhibit Hall. Researchers not wishing to make oral presentations
are strongly encouraged to prepare posters and submit an abstract.</font>
<p><font size=3 face="Times New Roman"><b>All abstracts are to be submitted
electronically via the conference web site not later than October 15, 2006.</b></font><font size=3>

exhibitor booths will be situated in the Exhibit Hall. This area will be
the primary gathering place for attendees where morning, mid-day and afternoon
refreshments and daily lunches are served. The agenda also features two
Poster Session & Networking Receptions which are heavily attended and
provide interaction during evening hours.</font>
