<P class=MsoNormal><FONT face=Arial size=2><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: Arial">I just returned from a backpack trip into the western Sierras and learned a tremendous amount from a close friend in the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection as well as several old timers we met along the way (loggers, firefighters, pack train operators). The upcoming <B><SPAN style="FONT-WEIGHT: bold">Chaparralian</SPAN></B> will detail what I learned and will offer some possibly surprising insights into the current condition of the western Sierra forests. Coming from a chaparral guy, you will likely find my thoughts unique. I hope to have the issue ready within a few weeks. Rumor has it, Jim Hart will make another appearance.<o:p></o:p></SPAN></FONT></P>
