*Position Overview:*

Seed LA is a collaborative network of organizations with a mission to
increase the availability of locally adapted seeds to conserve and enhance
the ecological diversity of the greater Los Angeles area. This locally
sourced seed, which will be used to grow native plants for large, public
urban greening efforts adjacent to the Los Angeles River and throughout the
region, will help ensure sustainable, well-adapted public landscapes that
support healthy habitats and communities into the future. The Seed LA
Coordinator will work closely with the partnering institutions (California
Botanic Garden, City Plants, Grown in LA, LA Conservation Corps, North East
Trees, Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy, Santa Monica Mountains
National Recreation Area, Theodore Payne Foundation for Wild Flowers and
Native Plants, TreePeople) to lead the effort in making high quality seed
collections for the collaborative and to assist in the advancement of our
mission and goals. Seed LA recently entered into a partnership with
California State Parks and The Nature Conservancy to provide locally
sourced seeds and plants for The Bowtie Demonstration Project, in which an
undeveloped historical railyard along the Los Angeles River will be
transformed into a public green space focused on nature conservation and
education. The Seed LA Coordinator will assist with the coordination and
execution of Seed LA’s contributions to this project. If full-time
employment is preferred, the Seed LA Coordinator will also assist with
other seed-related projects for the California Botanic Garden.

*Duties and Responsibilities:*


   - Assist in the coordination and execution of Seed LA’s contributions to
   The Bowtie Demonstration Project: make seed collections, communicate with
   project partners, assist with public workshops, and oversee project
   deliverables.
   - Assist in leading monthly Seed LA meetings, as well as subcommittee
   meetings as needed.
   - Assist with training and supervision of seed collection crew members
   and volunteers. Seeds will be collected using specific protocols developed
   by Seed LA.
   - Assist with cleaning, processing, storage and curation of the Seed LA
   collection.
   - Assist with permit applications and reporting.
   - Represent Seed LA at local meetings.
   - Maintain content for the Seed LA website.
   - Identify and apply for additional funding opportunities.
   - Other duties as assigned.


*Qualifications:*


   - One or more years of professional experience in a related field
   (conservation, botanical field work, etc.) desired.
   - Ability to follow instructions, work successfully with others, and
   work independently with minimal supervision is critical.
   - Strong writing and verbal skills, the ability to type, and computer
   skills (word processing, databases, and simple graphics) are essential.
   - Ability to use GPS equipment and read/navigate topographic maps.
   - A working knowledge of basic taxonomic principles and characteristics
   of major plant families and California flora desired.
   - Valid driver’s license.



*Physical demands*


   -  Ability to conduct fieldwork under a variety of environmental
   conditions is required.
   - Must have physical strength and endurance sufficient to carry field
   equipment and supplies and hike over steep, rugged terrain. Work may
   include bending and squatting on uneven terrain for extended periods of
   time.



*Salary Range*

$18.00 – $22.00 per hour depending on qualifications
