This is a GS-0430-9/11 Term Botanist position that will be filled for at least 13 months with an opportunity to extend up to 4 years. The Coronado NF is an extremely diverse forest with ecosystems ranging from Sonoran desert to mixed conifer, so this is a wonderful opportunity to join a high-performing team and manage unique plant species. The Forest is home to 5 federally listed plant species and numerous rare plant species of concern. Invasive species management and restoration activities will be part of the duties. The position is stationed in Tucson, AZ at the Supervisor's Office.

Responsibilities at the full performance level:

  *   Provide expertise regarding threatened, endangered and sensitive plant species, plant community and vegetation management.
  *   Monitor effects of activities on plant communities and interpret trends.
  *   Provide unit guidance and recommend strategies for rare, threatened and endangered plants.
  *   Coordinate with grazing associations, county and state weed managers, easement and permit holders in weed treatment efforts.
  *   Review environmental assessments and impact statements.
  *   Plan efforts and provide oversight on ecosystem restoration for the unit.
  *   Conduct environmental data collection field surveys and maintain inventory of plant occurrence records.
  *   Develop contracts and agreements related to treatment of invasive species and restoration activities.
  *   Lead restoration activities, assuring all safety protocols are followed.
  *   Prepare botanical reports for environmental documents and biological evaluations that meet legal and agency policy guidelines.
  *   Prepare reports on restoration activities and pesticide usage.
  *   Maintain database records on invasive species locations and treatment activities.
