*Overview: Shriver quantitative plant ecology lab<https://shriverlab.weebly.com/>.  The lab uses a combination of field monitoring data, remote sensing, and mathematical and statistical modeling to understand the drivers and resilience of plants populations and communities in the face global change, how disturbance and human management alter plant populations, and use this information to help inform management decisions.

*Position: The student will spearhead a project investigating the status and long-term trends of Tahoe draba, (Draba asterophora), an endemic alpine plant species to the Lake Tahoe Area. The student will lead fieldwork data collection in alpine areas around Lake Tahoe and organization of historical monitoring data as well using mathematical and statistical models to understand the demography and population trends of Tahoe draba.

Start date: The position could begin in summer or Fall 2022, however preference will be given to students who can begin in summer.

Who can apply: The ideal candidates for the positions have previous field ecological research and data analysis experience (e.g. R, math/statistics coursework), is highly self-motivated, comfortable working in sometimes remote field sites, and has a strong interest in being a part of a collaborative team.

UNR Graduate Program Information: Candidates will be admitted through Natural Resources and Environmental Science (NRES) graduate program. UNR is a Carnegie classified R1 institution with a wonderful community of basic and applied quantitative ecologists.

*Location: Reno is at the western edge of the Great Basin and base of the eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains with incredible access to outdoor recreational activities including skiing, climbing, hiking, and mountain biking. The university is ~45 minutes from Lake Tahoe, 2.5 hours from Yosemite and Lassen National Parks, and 3.5 hours from San Francisco Bay Area. Reno also has a diverse artistic and cultural community with much to offer.

*Compensation: Stipend of at least $1900 a month.
