Tracking the phenology of herbaceous species on Buck Island on the MS River with Caity Sims
Hosted by the Arkansas Native Plant Society

When: Saturday, August 13, 2022, 10:00am (Central Time Zone)
Zoom Link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86239086557

Program Description: In this program, Caity Sims will discuss the results of her thesis research project on tracking the reproductive phenology (the change in flowering and fruiting) of seven native, herbaceous plants found on Buck Island on the Lower Mississippi River. While most phenological studies focus on shifts in climate over time, Caity's study focused on the phenological relationship with flooding along the elevation gradient of the island. You'll also hear about some of her exciting experiences about researching plants on the Lower Mississippi River.

Speaker Bio: Caity Sims graduated from Southeast Missouri State University in 2019 with a B.S. in Wildlife Biology and Conservation. After graduation, she worked at the Missouri Botanical Garden's Litzsinger Road Ecology Center as a restoration intern where her passion and appreciation for native plants grew. She started her M.S. in Biology at Arkansas State in Spring 2020 and spent the past two summers working on Lower Mississippi River islands conducting floras, assessing plant diversity, and tracking phenological shifts
