Organizing and Implementing Native Medicinal Plant Restoration on Public Lands
Description
Restoring native medicinal plants and their habitats is a process with practical ecological implications while honoring our herbal inheritance and protecting its future. It also has a potent effect on a community’s land connection, which builds a lasting legacy of reciprocal relationship with medicinal plants and our environment. The Yerba Mansa Project, a local volunteer-driven non-profit organization, has been undertaking this work for seven years with positive results and lessons learned along the way. This project is an example that can be replicated and recreated in other areas where communities would like to restore degraded habitats and struggling native medicinal plants on public lands. Join us for discussion on how to design and undertake such a project where you live. We will explore environmental considerations for restoring native medicinal plants, how to create critical supportive partnerships, legal considerations, funding sources, community engagement, data collection, evaluating your work, and how to foster a more diverse and resilient native medicinal plant mosaic in the wild.
