Bee ID Tip: Sweat bees (as seen above) are often mistaken as flies because of their shape, size, and color, but these incredible insects are in fact, bees! Sweat bees come in two forms 1) metallic green or 2) black/brown with light bands of hair on their abdomen. They have pollen carrying hairs on their rear legs and have slender bodies. They can be solitary or communal nesters that make their nests in the soil, and can sometimes be attracted to the salt in your sweat!

New Native Garden Recipe Card for Alaska
We are excited to release the latest Native Pollinator Garden Recipe Card for Alaska! These regionally specific Native Pollinator Garden Recipe Cards were designed with easy to follow guidelines for creating home pollinator gardens that provide a diverse and colorful floral display throughout all growing seasons! The regional cards provide specific recommendations for native plant species to meet the unique environmental characteristics associated with each region and the pollinators that depend on native habitat. Multiple conservation authorities within each associated region vetted the suite of recommendations. The series now includes Alaska, Northwest, Intermountain West, Great Plains, Midwest, Northeast, Southwest, and Texas Regions.
