Job Duties:

Plan and implement monitoring and reporting on sensitive plants, animals, and unique habitats on the Hanford Site to ensure their continued protection and preservation, coordinate and interface with regulatory agencies, complete biological assessments and support Department of Energy Richland Operations Office (DOE-RL) through the consultation process for the plant and animal species listed or proposed for listing under the Endangered Species Act. This requires working with both the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) and/or the US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS). The position coordinates with other arid lands botanists and the Washington State Natural Heritage Program, which tracks and studies rare plants and plant communities in the State, to strengthen Hanford's ability to identify and protect key resources. The position supports the assessment of potential impacts of projects on Hanford's biological resources, including conducting ecological compliance reviews and writing and/or reviewing National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) decision documents (ecological assessments and environmental impact statements). Position assesses impacts and determines mitigation for the loss of ecological services for Hanford projects and off site entities (Avista, BPA, etc) doing work on DOE lands. Support the ecological compliance and monitoring program by implementing key DOE-RL guidance documents such as the Biological Resources Management Plan, Threatened and Endangered Species Management Plan, the Hanford Revegetation Manual, and other high level documents. https://www.hanford.gov/page.cfm/EcologicalMonitoring
