University*

*Summary: *A full-time technician position is available to work on a
variety of projects in PI Akasha Faist’s rangeland restoration ecology

located on NSMU’s main campus in Las Cruces, NM. The successful candidate
will be responsible for working with the lab PI to ensure the maintenance
of all project level activities, coordination with and management of
undergraduates and graduate students, and additional research activity
support.

*Required Qualifications: *Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental
Science, Range Science, Natural Resources, Ecology, Biology or a similar
degree. Three years of experience in standard methods and monitoring
techniques as well as demonstrating a base knowledge of restoration, plant,
and/or soil ecology.


*Job Duties and Responsibilities:*

*Fieldwork duties may include:* assisting or leading field installation and
monitoring efforts, establishing field plots, conducting field-based
seeding, plant growth, and environmental measurements, soil sampling,
ensuring proper sample processing, and employing field safety protocols.

*Greenhouse duties may include:* assisting in greenhouse research efforts,
ensuring that all greenhouse needs are met for current and future studies,
such as watering, pest control, data collection, and securing greenhouse
upkeep and maintenance.


*Lab duties may include:* plant and soil sample processing, preparing field
and greenhouse studies such as through building infrastructure or
pre-treating seeds, pressing plants and working with herbarium personnel
for proper archival while following and enforcing all lab safety and
cleanliness protocols.


*Project and data management duties may include:* collecting, entering,
compiling, analyzing, synthesizing and interpreting data, summarizing
results, ordering supplies, and mentoring and/or supervising undergraduate
and graduate students. Duties may also include drafting progress reports
and assisting PI  Faist and collaborators in manuscript writing.

*Physical Requirements:* Work involves moderate exposure to unusual
elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke,
unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises. Requires handling of average-weight
objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4)
hours per day.

*Pay Range:* $31,000 - $35,000 annually, commensurate upon experience
