The PCA is excited to welcome Abby Meyer, Executive Director, Botanic
Gardens Conservation International (BGCI) U.S. Office, to present
“Approaches to Plant Collections Gap Analysis and Safety Duplication” from
2:00-3:00 pm ET, on September 12th:

As gardens across North America are recovering from natural disasters in
recent months, it is important to consider collections coverage and
security. The network of gardens across the continent and world serves as a
safety net for plant species facing extinction. If we can leverage the
garden community to complement and backup collections within and among
institutions, we can close gaps and secure plant diversity for the future.
To implement The North American Botanic Garden Strategy for Plant
Conservation, BGCI and partners are conducting strategic ex situ gap
analyses of North American plants as potential collection priorities for
gardens. BGCI’s PlantSearch database provides the foundation for the
assessments. In addition to sharing the gap analysis results and species
priorities, this presentation will also highlight the ways garden staff can
use information available to them to assess gaps and priorities for their
own collections.
