Summer 2018 Undergraduate Internship for Underrepresented Minorities



*Deadline: March 16, 2018

*Overview:  The South Central Climate Science Center summer internship
provides STEM students from groups historically underrepresented in the
sciences with the opportunity to learn about the impacts of climate change
on natural and cultural resources of the south-central U.S. Selected
applicants will visit university campuses and field locations across the
region to study how researchers and communities are addressing
climate-related challenges, building a professional network along the way.



*Position: Summer internship



*Location:  West Texas Southern High Plains, the prairie and forest
ecosystems and tribal cultures of Oklahoma, and the bayous, delta and
coastline of Louisiana



*Compensation:  $200/week stipend



*Who may apply: Applicants must reside in and be traveling from Arkansas,
Kansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, or Texas and must be enrolled as a
full-time student in either a 2-year or a 4-year institution for the Fall
2018 semester.

*Financial Support: All meals, lodging, and travel will be provided for the
three week period. In addition, interns will receive a $200/week stipend
for the duration of the program. The program will not cover local travel
between the participant’s home to their closest airport, personal equipment
(clothing, cameras, etc.), or other personal expenses.

Early Career Researcher Professional Development Training



*Deadlines: April 2, 2018.

*Overview:  The South Central Climate Science Center is pleased to announce
their third Early Career Researcher Professional Development Training
designed for graduate students, postdocs, and early career researchers
(i.e., graduated within the last 5 years) from any discipline conducting
climate-related research with relevance to the South Central U.S. (i.e. New
Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, or Texas/Louisiana coast). Participants
will learn how to effectively communicate their research, develop
multi-disciplinary research proposals, engage in actionable science, and
build teams.



*Location:  Louisiana State University Campus, Baton Rouge, LA.
Participants will be housed in the Hilton Capitol Center in downtown Baton
Rouge.



*Who may apply: Applicants must be graduate students, postdocs, or
early-career professionals (i.e., graduated within the last five years),
who have or are conducting research associated with the south-central U.S.
(i.e., New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, or Texas/Louisiana coast).
Applicants must be at least 18-years of age and have a valid social
security number.


*Funding: All non-local participants will have lodging and subsistence
fully funded and travel funded based on a tiered allocation (based on
distance traveled up to a maximum allowable amount of $450). All local
participants will have subsistence funded during training hours.
