AN OVERVIEW OF NASA’S CARBON MONITORING SYSTEM (CMS) INITIATIVE

Presentation/Webinar date/time: Mar. 30; 12-1:30pm ET

Duration: 1.5 hour

What will you learn?

Initiated following a 2010 Congressional Direction, the NASA Carbon
Monitoring System project is designed to help characterize, quantify and
better understand the evolution of global carbon sources and sinks through
improved monitoring of carbon stocks and fluxes. The Carbon Monitoring
System initiative currently has 73 projects and 181 data products that span
the areas of atmospheric carbon flux, land biomass, terrestrial and coastal
ocean model integration, coastal wetlands, and ocean carbon dynamics
producing science at local, regional and global scales. This talk will
exemplify uses of Carbon Monitoring System data products in policy and
decision-making, as well as highlight synergistic opportunities between
Carbon Monitoring System and U.S. Forest Service.
