*Plant Conservation Alliance Meeting Summary*

L. Peter Boice, Deputy Director of Natural Resources for the Department of
Defense spoke on Plant & Pollinator Management including policy and some
specific plant and pollinator related projects; a PDF of his presentation
is attached.

·         Patricia De Angelis gave a brief update on CITES. Email
patricia_deangelis at fws.gov for more information.

·         Seeds of Success Trainings are coming up.

o   Next week, May 17 – 19 in Fort Collins, CO. Sign up via DOI Learn.

o   June 6, SOS East in NC

o   June 13, Conservation & Land Management Interns in Chicago

·         NatureServe is working on a plant prioritization project for the
North Atlantic LCC, updating global and national rankings and providing
regional rankings for rare, endangered and sensitive species.

·         Institute for Applied Ecology will be hosting the National Native
Seed Conference February 13 – 16, 2016 in Washington, DC. Updates will be
posted to the website: http://nativeseed.info/ Contact Rob Fiegener -

·         US Fish and Wildlife Service is developing an endowment to
protect the threatened and endangered native plants of Florida – over 500
species.

·         The Center for Plant Conservation has moved its National
Headquarters to Escondido, CA to partner with San Diego Zoo Global.

·         The 2016 Natural Areas Conference will be in Davis California,
October 18 – 21. Peggy Olwell will be hosting a session on Pollinators and
is looking for speakers. If you would like to present, contact Lindsey

·         Elizabeth Rieben is helping to develop a Communications Plan for
the National Seed Strategy. She plans to have it completed in June.

·         The IUCN World Conservation Congress will be held in Hawai’i
September 1 – 10, 2016. This is the first time it will be held in the USA
and will they be initiating a new IUCN Species Survival Commission
Specialist Group: SEED CONSERVATION! More information:

o   There may be opportunities for poster presentations in the USA
Pavilion. Submissions are due in July.

o   BLM has a poster accepted on the youth and seed collecting program-
Peggy Olwell and Betsy Wooster

o   Institute for Applied Ecology will have a poster with the International
Society for Seed Science and will be promoting the National Seed Strategy –
Rob Fiegener
