The attached job announcement is for a Natural Resource Specialist located
in the Salt Lake Field Office (in West Valley City).

The Natural Resource Specialist will serve as the lead for the botany,
weed, vegetation monitoring, and forestry programs as the subject matter
expert for the Field Office. The incumbent will be responsible for
coordinating and working with a wide variety of partners and key
stakeholders throughout northern Utah to develop projects to manage
sensitive plant species, control weed invasions, establish and monitor
plant communities, and mange forestry resources. The incumbent will also
ensure that these resources are considered in the development and review of
other projects that occur throughout the Field Office. The incumbent will
determine effects of land management activities on components
of vegetation resources over time. Based on an understanding of the
relationship between biological and physical processes, the successful
incumbent will develop conservation measures to avoid, minimize and
mitigate any adverse affects to sensitive plant species and
vegetation resources while minimizing the spread of weedy species.

The position is located in the Salt Lake Field Office (SLFO). The SLFO
manages 3.2 million acres that contain historical communities, diverse
terrain, scenic landscapes, and recreational attractions that figure
prominently in the settlement, history, culture, and recreational enjoyment
of northern Utah. Portions of the Columbia Basin, Wyoming Basin, Middle
Rocky Mountains, Upper Basin & Range and Colorado Plateau physiographic
provinces occur within the SLFO and include wetlands, salt desert shrub,
sagebrush-steppe, alpine and sub-alpine plant communities. The renowned
Bonneville Salt Flats offer a view of the earth’s curve to thousands of
race car enthusiasts and filmers from across the world. The SLFO is unique
in that it hosts approximately 86 percent of the state’s population.
Population growth and urbanized interface represent a complex management
situation. There are numerous communities and residential subdivisions
making the largest wildland urban interface in Utah.
