As noted below, one of the areas we work on is CITES, and there are more
than 1,500 plants and animals listed in CITES that are native to the U.S.

The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service International Affairs Program
<http://www.fws.gov/international/> is looking for a dynamic, motivated
individual to help raise awareness about the work that we do to conserve
species around the globe. This volunteer position would support the efforts
of the Outreach & Education Team in a number of ways, including but not
limited to:

·         Developing specific outreach activities and materials to
stimulate broader public interest and awareness of the International
Affairs Program

·         Creating and editing website and social media content

·         Cataloging and sorting photos and video assets

·         Preparing text, formatting documents, and compiling relevant
information to support the Outreach & Education team


Additional tasks could be developed to meet the interests and skill sets of
the volunteer.



*Desired Qualifications:*

·         Practical knowledge of the process of preparing outreach and
education materials.

·         Practical knowledge of wildlife conservation and international
wildlife trade to research and prepare outreach materials.

·         Familiarity with new media, including websites and social media,
used to design, develop, and post content.

·         Ability to communicate with diverse audiences (e.g.,
subject-matter experts, customers)

·         Familiarity with Adobe (InDesign, Photoshop, Lightroom,
Illustrator, and/or Dreamweaver), or the willingness to learn these
programs, is strongly preferred.

·         Foreign language skills preferred.

The Service’s International Affairs program coordinates domestic and
international efforts to protect, restore, and enhance the world’s diverse
wildlife and their habitats with a focus on species of international
concern. The Service has international responsibilities under some 40
treaties and U.S. laws and regulations, including the Endangered Species
Act, the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild
Fauna and Flora (CITES), the Lacey Act, the Canada/Mexico/U.S. Trilateral
Committee of Wildlife and Ecosystem Conservation and ManagementMigratory
Bird Treaty Act, the Agreement on the Conservation of Polar Bears, the
US-Russia Polar Bear Treaty, migratory bird treaties with Canada, Japan and
Russia, and the Fish and Wildlife Act of 1956.



The International Affairs Program works with private citizens, local
communities, other Federal and State agencies and foreign governments, as
well as non-governmental organizations, scientific and conservation
organizations, industry groups, the private sector, and other interested
parties to ensure effective implementation of treaties and laws, and the
global conservation of species.

and networking, such as brown bag seminars, forums and panel discussions
related to wildlife conservation.
