The BLM is responsible for managing a large spectrum of natural resource
values.  Diverse, healthy, and resilient native plant communities provide
the greatest opportunity to be successful in meeting sustainability and
multiple-use objectives for all programs within the BLM. As a multiple use
agency, BLM must continue to provide for a variety of activities and uses
on public lands.  The National Seed Program provides the critical link to
meet BLM’s vegetative rehabilitation and restoration objectives across the
BLM landscape.

The National BLM Office is currently recruiting candidates for the position
of National Seed Coordinator (GS-401-13) stationed in Boise, Idaho.  This
position serves as the national seed coordinator serving all BLM offices,
with a special emphasis on the Great Basin States.  Become part of our BLM

*Duties:*

   - Coordinating and managing the acquisition and distribution of seed for
   the Bureau’s Regional Seed Warehouses in Boise, Idaho and Ely, Nevada.
   - Actively interface with growers, seed companies, and other federal &
   state agencies.
   - Develops national guidance in conjunction with other national program
   leaders/coordinators on the use, acquisition, and storage of seed.
   - Establishes specifications and evaluation criteria for purchasing seed
   based on technical knowledge and experience with uses, adaptability,
   physical characteristics, treatment needed and problems associated with
   each type and variety of seed.
   - Promotes the increase in availability of major seed varieties
   purchased by the BLM with a focus on native plant materials for use by the
   BLM and its partners.
   - Provides technical leadership and supervisory guidance to the Seed
   Supply Specialists at the Boise and Ely Regional Seed Warehouses.

*What Does Boise Have to Offer?*

Estimated Population:  600,000 (larger Treasure Valley area)

Schools:  The Boise Independent School District has 32 elementary schools,
nine junior high schools, four high schools,  In addition, the Meridian
Joint School District has 31 elementary schools, nine middle schools and
five high schools,  Boise State University is the largest university in
Idaho, with an enrollment of nearly 22,000 students.  Boise State
University offers almost 200 degrees and certificates.

Economy:  Boise’s metropolitan area boasts an ever-increasing job market
and a steady economy.  Several major companies are headquartered in Boise.
Several other cities and communities within the Treasure Valley offer more
job opportunities and af¬fordable housing.

Weather:  Because of Boise’s relatively low elevation, the city rarely sees
cumulative snowfall in the winter but the mountains outside town get plenty
of snow as does Bogus Basin Ski Area.  Summer temperatures range from the
mid-80s to high 90s, and Boise’s brilliant fall and spring seasons are mild
and colorful.

Recreation:  Within a short distance you can hike, bike, ski, float a
river, boat, and more.  Boise has a 25-mile long Greenbelt path along the
Boise River, a Ridge to Rivers trail system leading into the wild and
scenic foothills, and multiple city parks.  Boise also has minor league
baseball, ice hockey and basketball teams…. and the BSU football team won
the recent Fiesta Bowl game!
