An opportunity has arisen for a suitably highly experienced Director
Science to join this dynamic organisation. The position is responsible for
the management of the Science Directorate; the establishment and
maintenance of strategic research funding, partnerships and institutional
relationships; inspiring innovative scientific research; undertaking
research in native plant conservation and ecological restoration; providing
high quality advice to the Chief Executive Officer; and actively
contributing to the strategic direction of the Authority as a member of the
Corporate Executive.

Kings Park and Botanic Garden is the most visited destination in Western
Australia. The Botanic Gardens and Parks Authority prides itself on a
highly skilled, flexible, enthusiastic and committed workforce.

Kings Park and Botanic Garden covers approximately 400 ha in the inner city
of Perth. The State's Botanic Garden covers 17 ha and provides spectacular
displays in a living research centre committed to the conservation of
Western Australia's flora. Nearly two thirds of Kings Park is natural
bushland containing over 300 native plant species and around 80 bird
species. Bold Park, currently 437 ha, is the largest remaining bushland
remnant in the urban area of the Swan Coastal Plain and provides a haven
for over 1,000 different plants, animals and fungi.

The Authority enjoys an international reputation for excellence in
biodiversity conservation science, undertaking integrated research focused
on practical outcomes in native plant biology, rare plant conservation and
restoration at the species, ecosystem and landscape scale.

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the successful applicant
will have experience in the management of staff, budgets and timelines to
deliver complex and diverse scientific research programs, including the
successful application of research outcomes, extensive knowledge of
contemporary issues in Australian and global ecosystem conservation and
restoration science.
