JOB SUMMARY:
This position is located in the Department of Botany, National Museum of Natural History (NMNH), Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C.  The purpose of this position is to serve as collections manager of the United States National Herbarium within the Department of Botany, with supervisory authority and responsibility for the Core Collections Management (CCM) Unit, and would serve under the supervision of the Chair of the Department of Botany.

DUTIES:

 *   Serves as the primary contact to all users of the Department's collections by implementing standards, accepted technical procedures for the care, preparation, preservation, cataloging, storage and use of herbarium collections.
 *   Supervises the work of full-time employees who comprise the Core Collections Management (CCM) Unit in their roles of acquiring, managing and providing access to the collections and collections-based research results produced by Botany staff.
 *   Directs projects within the Department designed to improve the physical state of the collections, access to the collections, and information regarding the collections.
 *   Represents the Department of Botany and sometimes the entire museum in programs involving other botanical organizations, both nationally and internationally, in developing standards for data collection and exchange.
