Additional Information

Purpose of Position To manage and administer the education program for the 
Sustainable Sites Initiative (SITES) and to assist with the development of 
the revised 2013 Rating System and Reference Guide, pilot project reviews, 
communication and marketing and in other capacities as needed and 
directed.

Essential Functions Research existing educational materials and programs 
for applicability to the Sustainable Sites Initiative to better understand 
the market demand and supply of sustainable site education. Assist with 
developing and administering the SITES education program. Prepare and 
organize SITES presentations; develop education outreach materials and 
programs. Ensure SITES is meeting its projected goals by managing workflow 
and schedules in an efficient and effective manner. Participate in 
proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and Wildflower Center 
goals. Responsible for implementation of a quality system as it applies to 
the specific activities being performed. Organize and coordinate effective 
meetings and project documentation between project partners, staff, pilot 
projects and technical advisors. Use accepted project management methods 
in engaging committee members, technical experts and other stakeholders 
regarding development or interpretation of SITES credits, guidelines, 
certification, or other matters. Identify technical, management, policy, 
or communications issues that require review by the SITES Director and 
raise those issues in a timely fashion. Ensure consistent, timely, and 
appropriate communication between staff, organizational partners, 
technical experts, pilot project developers, and other stakeholders. 
Supervise project interns.

Marginal/Incidental functions Other related functions as assigned. 
Occassional evenings and weekends for fundraising efforts.

Required qualifications A Bachelor's degree in Environmental 
Science/Education, Sustainable Design/Development, Landscape Architecture, 
Natural Resource Management or a related field. A minimum of five years 
experience with increasing responsibility in education-based programming 
and in the development of educational materials concerning: sustainable 
landscape design and construction, conservation initiatives or a related 
field. Able to work productively both independently and in collaboration 
with a team. Demonstrated ability in effectively ensuring a project meets 
program goals with schedules, budget and content delivery. Demonstrated 
ability and experience in effective communication with upper management, 
project members and volunteers. Knowledge of the LEED rating system of the 
US Green Building Council and other sustainability codes and initiatives. 
Applied knowledge of computer programs (i.e., Word, Excel, Powerpoint, 
Photoshop). Excellent writing and oral communication skills. Knowledgeable 
about sustainable design principles and landscape architectural design and 
production standards. Equivalent combination of relevant education and 
experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in Environmental 
Science/Education, Sustainable Development, Landscape Architecture, 
Natural Resource Management or a related field. Familiarity with 
fundraising and grant writing. Experience with the LEED rating system of 
the US Green Building Council and other sustainability codes and 
initiatives. Graphic and web design/development skills (knowledge of 
various programs such as Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, etc). A 
recognized passion for the natural world and interest in solving 
real-world issues with innovative solutions. An ability to develop and 
implement creative new initiatives.

for special events. Minimal overnight travel (up to 15 percent) by land 
and/or air.
