California Gardens: Beauty & Sustainability With Native Plants. A one-day
symposium on native plant gardening and design will be held on Saturday,
February 19, 2011, 9am to 6pm at Foothill College, 12345 El Monte Road, Los
Altos Hills, CA. The venue has been moved to Smithwick Theater on the same
campus. The theme is creating and maintaining attractive and sustainable
landscapes using California native plants. Topics range from plant selection to
garden design and maintenance to habitat value, chosen to inform, educate, and
inspire landscape professionals, home gardeners, and native plant enthusiasts.
Speakers include Californias leading horticulturists and designers: Bart
OBrien of Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden, Bernard Trainor of Bernard Trainor
+ Associates, Judith Lowry of Larner Seeds, Nevin Smith of Suncrest Nurseries,
Paul Kephart of Rana Creek, and Dr. Glenn Keator of Merritt College, and more.
The program includes continental breakfast, lunch, and reception. Plants and
books will be available for sale.
The symposium is organized by the California Native Plant Society (Santa Clara
Valley Chapter), hosted by Foothill College Environmental Horticulture
Department, and sponsored by Santa Clara Valley Water District and Bay Area
Water Supply & Conservation Agency. Registrations are being accepted. Space is
