[PCA] WEB: National Biological Information Infrastructure terminated

I'd like to understand better what this means. Is it just this
particular infrastructure that will end, but all the contained data and
literature bases will continue to exist?

In practice, I have accessed materials independently that are reachable
through the NBII, and frankly didn't even know this structure existed
before getting this announcement.

In the 2012 President's Budget Request, the National Biological 
Information Infrastructure (NBII) is terminated. As a result, all 
resources, databases, tools, and applications within this web site will
be 
removed on January 15, 2012. For more information, please refer to the
