Conservation Research Scientist
Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum

Founded in 1952, the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum is a world-renowned
zoo, botanical garden, and conservation non-profit. The Museum is
currently seeking a Conservation Research Scientist. This
regular/full-time position is responsible for organizing, conducting,
and coordinating supervisor approved research/conservation projects on
organismal biology, plant systematics, distribution, evolution, and
the general ecology & natural history of the Sonoran Desert Region.
Duties include: developing and undertaking original research programs
in areas of expertise; writing grant proposals and fundraising for
projects and research & conservation activities; and publishing in
scientific, peer-reviewed journals, popular magazines, and other
media. Additional responsibilities include: providing guidance and
answering questions from ASDM staff, docents, volunteers and from the
public on both sides of the border, contributing to the scientific
accuracy of ASDM interpretive & public programs and publications, and
promoting science & conservation in the region among governmental and
international agencies as well as other governmental and
non-governmental organizations.

This position requires a doctoral degree (PhD) in a field related to
the conservation of biological diversity, a minimum of five years
experience in research & conservation of the Sonoran Desert Region,
and a minimum of five years of diverse fundraising experience; or
equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have
published records in scientific and popular publications. Additional
qualifications: Must be fluent in written and spoken English, with
good conversational-level Spanish, be able to speak in public to both
scientific and popular audiences, and be able to travel throughout the
region.
