JOB SUMMARY:
The BLM manages more land - approximately 253 million acres - than any
other Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public
Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The
Bureau, with a budget of about $1 billion, also administers 700 million
acres of sub-surface mineral estates throughout the nation. The BLM's

Duties
Additional Duty Location Info:
1 vacancy - Richfield, UT
This position will work under the Division of Natural Resources in the
Renewable Resources Branch for the Utah State Office and is duty stationed
in the Richfield Field Office.
In this position you will be responsible for initiating, developing and
guiding the implementation of habitat wide conservation plans and
strategies for special status plant species and their habitat on the
Colorado Plateau. You will work with the State Office to coordinate
special status plant species related actions on the Plateau and provide
assistance to the involved field offices.
You will also be responsible for the following:
Provide techinical expertise and assistance to Field Offices on species
conservation and data collection.
Coordinate inventory and monitoring of native and special status plant
species and habitats, and maintain refrence databases and maps.
Serve as team leader/member on NEPA ID teams. Prepare NEPA documents as
needed and assigned.
Develop and maintain contacts with other federal and state agencies. Keep
District and Field Offices informed on changes in laws, regulations,
guidance, and policy.
Qualifications and Evaluations
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Basic Education Requirement:
A degree in botany; or basic plant science that included at least 24
semester hours in botany such as:basic botany, plant anatomy or
morphology, cytology, histology, genetics, taxonomy or systematics,
algology, mycology, ethnobotany, and those dealing with specific problems
of a botanical nature or with specific groups of plants.
You will need to clearly state your undergraduate/graduate degree(s) and
submit your college transcripts or a listing of your college
courses that includes hours and grades.
Specialized Experience Requirements:
In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to
determine that you meet the specialized experience requirement- please be
sure to include this information in your resume. To be
creditable, this experience must have been equivalent in difficulty and
complexity to the next lower grade (GS-11) of the position to be filled.
Examples of Specialized Experience: Working with plant communities in
specific ecosystems, professional experience in identifying federally
listed threatened or endangered plants, desert perennials, annual
flowering plants or animals. Responsibility for monitoring habitat
management plans, allotment management plans and other management actions
to mitigate or minimize impact to vegetation resources.
You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the

HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:

- Professional knowledge of the theories, principles, practices and
techniques of taxonomy and field plant identification.
- Professional knowledge and experience in the field of botany as well as
ecology.
- In-depth knowledge of the provisions of State and Federal legislation,
regulations, policy manuals, procedural handbooks, instruction memoranda,
other major directives, solicitors' opinions, and court cases pertaining
to special status plant species and their habitats on the public lands.
- Skill and ability in oral and written communications.
