Elwha Restoration: Where Will 400,000 Young Plants Find a Place to Live?

In Olympic National Park, the Elwha River flows through a forest of 
ancient trees, some of them centuries old.

When the two dams begin to come down next year, the former reservoirs will 
undergo a major change in appearance, said Joshua Chenoweth, a botanist 
with Olympic National Park. However, nobody should expect the landscape to 
look like an old-growth forest anytime soon.
