Catch-22 for Florida's wild cotton

First, South Florida's native wild cotton was eradicated.

Then, by virtue of so much eradication, it was endangered.

Now the Miami-Dade chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society is sending 
out the word: Because of worries that the pink bollworm will spread from 
the Everglades to domestic cotton fields, the beleaguered wild cotton must 
not be cultivated anywhere in Florida. But because it is on the state's 
endangered plant list, it can't be removed and must not be collected 
without state permits.
