Energy company sows seeds of redemption
Compton funds research to restore hardy grass

Rough fescue is a long-living perennial bunchgrass revered by Alberta 
ranchers and naturalists --even if most city-dwellers would be 
hard-pressed to distinguish it from any other prairie plant.

It is so strong it sticks through snow drifts, allowing horses, cattle and 
wildlife to feed on its shoots all winter.

The hardiness of mature rough fescue is matched only by the notorious 
difficulty of regrowing new grass after it has been overgrazed, or torn up 
by oil and gas development.
