Ecologist travels Texas to pore over flora
Geo-database she's helping create is part of larger efforts to manage 
wildlife in Texas.

In the rain, amid sand dunes, on chilly mountain passes or deep in vast 
deserts, Amie Treuer-Kuehn clambers out of her white Chevy pickup to 
examine yet another patch of Texas ground.

Treuer-Kuehn, a plant ecologist with the Texas Parks and Wildlife 
Department, is putting together a "geo-database" -- a minutely examined, 
arguably obsessively put-together, survey of the state's landscape. The 
data is ultimately turned into maps that capture the flora and shape of 
the landscape.
