Bull Run Mountains Conservancy Naturalist and Resource Manager Positions

Bull Run Mountains Conservancy (BRMC) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3)
organization founded in 1995 to protect the Bull Run Mountains through
education, research, and stewardship. The Conservancy is located in Broad
Run, Virginia, about 3 miles west of the town of Haymarket and about 25
miles from Washington, D.C. We are currently seeking a part-time
Naturalist and a part-time resident Resource Manager.

Our Naturalist position entails a combination of environmental education
programming and development, scientific field studies, and administrative
work. Applicants must have a good grasp of natural history and biological
concepts, and a willingness to constantly develop as a professional
naturalist. Communication skills are extremely important. Experience in
education and field studies desired. Computer experience in database
programs, publisher programs, and spreadsheets is needed. It is a 20 hour
a week position with a salary of $15,000-$20,000 per year, depending on
experience.

Our Natural Resource Manager (or Managers) will live in the Mountain
House, at the foot of the Bull Run Mountains. The Manager's primary
responsibility is to be a presence in the natural area while maintaining
the trails and monitoring their use. Other duties include cleaning and
maintenance of the Mountain House and grounds, participation in some BRMC
programs and research, and general support of BRMC goals. These duties
require approximately 12 hours per week, and will be in exchange for free
rent (utilities not included). The two-bedroom residence is the bottom
floor of the Mountain House (offices are upstairs) and has its own
entrance. There are stone floors, a large storage room, washer/dryer, and
space outside for gardening. This is an ideal position for a mature
college or graduate student, for an active retired person, or for anyone
who has some free time and would like to live a bit closer to nature and
help preserve our environment.

Both positions are available immediately and potentially can be filled by
a single individual. To apply, send resume and cover letter to Michael
Kieffer, Executive Director, Bull Run Mountains Conservancy, P.O. Box 210,
Broad Run, VA 20137 or to info at brmconservancy.org by Friday, September 18,
2009. You can also call Michael at (703) 753-2631, or inquire at the main
entrance of the Mountain House weekdays 9 a.m to 4 p.m. For more
