       Hello all,

The upcoming Ohio Botanical Symposium will be on Wednesday, March 19,
2008. The Ohio Division of Natural Areas & Preserves along with The
Nature Conservancy and The Ohio State University Herbarium are
sponsoring an event on Ohio botany and natural areas. It is a great
way to meet colleagues, make new connections, and learn more about
Ohio botany and natural history. The symposium will be held at The
       Ohio State University's Fawcett Center.

The upcoming slate of speakers include Michael Homoya, botanist with
the Indiana Division of Nature Preserves, as our keynote speaker. He
will be speaking about the orchids of the Midwest. Mike is the
author of one of the best books on North American orchids, Orchids of
Indiana. Other speakers include Greg Schneider talking about the best
plant finds of 2007. We are excited to have Dr. Patrick Lawless
speak on the fascinating flora of xeric limestone prairies. Dr.
David Horn will be speaking on the interesting relationships between
plants and pollinators. Dr. Bob Klips will introduce you to the
obscure world of mosses and John Jaeger with Tim Schetter of Toledo
Metroparks will talk about the metroparks efforts in the biologically
rich region of the Oak Openings.

During the lunch break from 11:45-1:15 you may network with people,
view the displays and posters, and you will have the option of
watching a 20+ minute show of pictures set to music on the diversity
and beauty of southern Ohio by naturalist & photographer John Howard.

Visit our website http://www.ohiodnr.com/dnap and click on "Natural
Life in Ohio" tab to learn more about the symposium including speaker
bios, list of local restaurants, lunch menu, and a list of
exhibitors. Registration is $15 with additional cost for the
optional lunch. Registration fee increases $10 after March 12th. I
hope you will join us for a day on Ohio botany!

       Thank you.

       Sincerely,

       Rick Gardner, Heritage Botanist
