Encyclopedia of Life: The first 30,000 pages

The first 30,000 pages of an ambitious multi-million pound Encyclopedia of
Life project have been unveiled.
They mark the first milestone in a 10-year-long project to chronicle and
put online everything that is known about all the world's species.
Eventually the website - www.eol.org - will give access to a giant
database of information on the 1.8m known species of life on Earth.
For the full article text, check the link above. The Encyclopedia of Life
link doesn't seem to be working currently, probably due to the high
volume of people browsing it, so try it again in a day or two when things
have calmed down.
