Overall Objective: 
Under general direction, performs a variety of tasks in the area of
integrated pest management (IPM) on natural lands, and performs related
duties as assigned.
 
Geographic Locations
·        Open Space & Mountain Parks Annex
 
Position Duties by Ranking of Importance
·        Removes noxious weeds from sensitive areas by hand pulling,
mechanical removal, or limited chemical controls.
·        Maintains detailed records of IPM treatments performed and
resources used.
·        Works as part of a team.
·        Maps noxious weed infestations using GPS technology and aerial
photography
·        Participates in projects involving employees and other agency
staff and/or volunteers in performing integrated weed management in
grassland and forest ecosystems and restoration areas.   
·        Performs research and/or monitoring related to a variety of
IPM treatment methods, collects data and prepares related reports.
·        Assists in vegetation restoration projects including tree
removal, shrub plantings, forest mitigation work, and wildlife habitat
enhancements.
·        Assists in rare plant monitoring studies and native seed
collection.
·        Operates four wheel drive vehicles on rough terrain.
·        Takes proper safety precautions, anticipates unsafe
circumstances, and acts accordingly to prevent accidents.  Uses all
proper safety equipment.  Reports all accidents and damage to City
property.
·        Responsible for knowing and complying with all City and
department policies; participating in professional trainings and
development; and adhering to attendance and workplace attire policies.

Position Requirements
·        Ability and willingness to work as part of a team.
·        Ability to perform a wide range of physical and manual tasks
in an outdoor environment under a variety of weather conditions. 
·        Strong plant identification skills.
·        Ability to work and communicate effectively with diverse
groups of people including the ability to deal courteously with the
public and land users.
·        Training and/or experience in mapping, aerial photo
interpretation and map reading 
·        Ability to organize and maintain supplies and equipment.
·        Ability to keep accurate records, organize information and
prepare written reports.
·        Training and/or experience in vegetation inventory and
monitoring principles.
·        Ability to evaluate conditions in assigned area and make
judgments related to safety
·        Driving skills:  experience with four-wheel drive and
acceptable motor vehicle record.
 
Position Desired Requirements
·        College level coursework in botany, environmental biology, or
related field.
·        Effective conflict resolution skills.
·        Effective writing skills.
·        Experience in IPM work, forest, grassland and aquatic systems
and/or restoration.
·        Experience with GIS software and applications.
·    
    Familiarity with personal computer and office software
programs (word processing, spreadsheet).
