The Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest is looking for highly motivated and 
enthusiastic individuals for summer employment in Rangeland Resources.  We 
plan on filling two botany positions under either the temporary employment 
program (USA Jobs: www.usajobs.opm.gov) or the Student Temporary 
Employment Program (STEP) for the 2008 season.  Potential candidates may

anticipated to begin in early June and continue through the end of August 
or September.  Start and end dates can be adjusted around school 
schedules.

- Botany technicians will operate as members of a 2 person field 
crew conducting rare plant surveys and collecting other resource 
information in support of range analysis and fuels projects.  The focus 
will be on the Ruby Mountains with some time on the Austin-Tonopah 
District and east side of the Ely District.  Fuels and range surveys will 
be conducted on the Ely District.
- The duty station for these positions will be Wells, Nevada
- Starting wages for GS-4 ($12.73/hr), GS-5 ($14.34/hr), GS-6 
($15.88) or GS-7 ($17.64/hr).

Knowledge of Great Basin plants and some experience in vegetation surveys, 
inventory and general monitoring are highly desirable for these positions. 
The work requires physical exertion such as long periods of standing, 
walking over rough, steep, rocky surfaces with recurring stooping, 
reaching, or bending.  These positions may require lifting of moderately 
heavy objects up to 50 pounds, walking for long periods with a back pack, 
horseback riding, or extended camping.  Housing and/or bunk space may be
