Scientific Aids

Location:                       Bakersfield (1 position), Fresno (1 position)
Final Filing Date:      Until filled
Duration:               Up to 12 months/30 hours per week
Pay:            $11.20/hour
Starting Date:          Immediately

Primary Duties:  Assist Regional Botanist in a broad range of field and 
office tasks.  Perform routine maintenance, habitat improvement, and 
enhancement on Department-owned lands, including application of herbicides; 
participate in habitat assessments, surveys, and monitoring of rare species 
populations; collect and manage data; assist with document preparation, 
library research, and database searches; assist with administrative tasks 
such as vehicle and equipment maintenance, copying, and filing.  The 
ability to work in adverse weather and in unstable terrain is a must.  Some 
overnight travel may be required.

Minimum Qualifications:  Possession of a valid California Driver's License and

Either I
Education:  Equivalent to completion of two years of college with a minimum 
of 10 semester hours in biological/natural sciences.

Or II
Experience: One year of experience in surveying, studying, or evaluating 
plant, wildlife, or fish populations or habitats.

Additional Desirable Qualifications:  Multiple college courses in biology 
and ecology, experience in field work in the Central Valley, familiarity 
with Windows-based computers and GPS units.  Willingness to do routine work 
and work irregular hours.
