Forwarding this Symposium announcement....(By the way, plants are included
in the meeting - as habitat), i.e.

Panel 1:
"Impacts of Climate Change on North American Wildlife and Habitat
The first panel will provide a concise review of the primary types of
climate change impacts expected to affect wildlife and wildlife habitat in
North America. Presentations will include a review of the latest research
on these impacts. While each scientist serving on the panel will focus on
impacts within their particular taxonomic or system of greatest expertise,
they will also be encouraged to look broadly at the impacts of increasing
CO2 concentrations and climate change on all North American habitats and
species."

Panel 3:
"Policy Change for Climate Change: Implementing Adaptation Strategies for
Wildlife and Habitat
The third panel will draw from the previous panels and suggest concrete
policy steps to implement adaptation strategies in the real worlds of
legislation, regional and global economies, and other dimensions of public
policy. The panel will make recommendations for action to reduce the
impact of global warming on wildlife by federal and state governments and
conservation organizations, particularly Defenders of Wildlife. "

Symposium Announcement and Call for Posters: Defenders of Wildlife is
pleased to announce “Innovations in Wildlife Conservation: Reducing the
Impact of Global Warming on America’s Wildlife,” September 27, 2007;
8am-6pm at the Capital Hilton in Washington, DC.

Speakers will explore the impacts of climate change on wildlife; the
adaptation strategies to reduce those impacts; and policy responses
necessary to ensure that wildlife species survive impacts of global
warming over the next century.

Science, Engineering, and Policy Innovators are invited to present posters
demonstrating innovative approaches, strategies, and practices to enhance
adaptation of wildlife to the impacts of global warming. Posters should
broadly examine both the impacts as well as the types of tools,
technologies, practices, and measures that should be considered if we are
to meet the challenges of global warming. Symposium proceedings and poster
abstracts, and recommendations for action, will be published.
