Subject: Wetland Monocots Plant ID Improvements---New Version Available

TO: State PLANTS Coordinators

Regarding the on-line and downloadable wetland monocot keys:

         <http://npdc.usda.gov/technical/plantid_wetland_mono.html>

These keys have two improvements as of 28NOV06: Addition of a "Best"
button and the improvement of the "Lookup" button. If you or your
colleagues have downloaded a copy previously, please replace it with the
updated version for added functionality.

Best: This function reports the number of remaining taxa with each
character in brackets after the character. This greatly helps you to know
which characters will get you to an answer the fastest. For example, if
your plant has blue flowers and you see "Flowers, blue [3]" you know that
only three taxa will remain if you choose that character.

Lookup: Highlight any word in the Characters section and click on the
"Lookup" Button to get a definition from Google. You have to be on-line
to use this function.

Again, if you have any comments, please contact Gerald "Stinger" Guala
<gerald.guala at la.usda.gov> directly.

Thanks,

   Scott
