Subject: PCA MOU signed by U.S. Geological Survey

On March 27, P. Patrick Leahy, Acting Director for the United States
Geological Survey, signed the current Memorandum of Understanding on
Federal Native Plant Conservation. With his Dr. Leahy's signature, USGS
has now joined the USDA Forest Service, USDA Agricultural Research
Service, USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, Bureau of Land
Management, National Park Service, Fish and Wildlife Service and the
Department of Transportation Federal Highway Commission in a MOU directed
at identifying and recommending priority conservation needs for native
plants and their habitats. The MOU is the foundation document for the
Plant Conservation Alliance, which promotes the protection of native plant
and plant communities through grants, education and outreach and
supporting the use of native species in restoring and maintaining diverse
habitats such as rangeland, forests, highway corridors and areas affected
by fire an other natural hazards.
