Job # F154
Conservation Program Intern
DEPT/DIV: Center for Plant Conservation
STATUS: Part-time, Temporary

The Center for Plant Conservation is seeking an Intern to work on a 
variety of projects, including surveying publications with species 
information, writing species profiles and other materials (for 
newsletters, reports, and website), assisting with project coordination 
for projects being carried out nationwide by our 34 participating 
institutions, literature searches for online bibliographies, obtaining 
copies of scientific literature for our library, helping with the planning 
and logistics for meetings, etc. This is a part-time internship for five 
months August through December, 2006, and may be renewable if funding 
permits

Qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent and completion 
or progress towards a degree. Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite 
required. Knowledge of Adobe Pagemaker/Indesign and Microsoft Access 
desired. Good communication skills and the ability to work with Latin 
names highly desired.

Communications Coordinator
DEPT/DIV: Center for Plant Conservation
STATUS: Full time, Regular

Implements the Center's outreach plan for public audiences, and the 
communication strategy within the CPC organization at several levels. 
Presents new ideas and recommendations for plan revisions. Coordinates 
public relations and media contacts for the Center; writes, edits, designs 
and/or produces tipsheets and news releases, small print pieces, and the 
organization's newsletters, publications, and reports. Tracks expenditures 
for communications and advises on budget needs. Monitors online and print 
sources of information about conservation issues, legislation, and 
regulations to inform our network and support advocacy to policymakers. 
Coordinates website updates; assists with grant writing; coordinates 
distribution of the Center.s publications and maintains related inventory 
and records.

Qualifications include a Bachelor.s degree and two years related 
experience; outstanding editorial, writing and proof reading skills; and 
demonstrated computer and desktop publishing skills. Strong organizational 
skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines in a complex 
institutional environment required. Pagemaker or Quark software experience 
preferred.

Conservation Biologist
DEPT/DIV: Conservation and Sustainable Development
STATUS: Full time, Regular

Leads the Missouri Botanical Garden local efforts in plant conservation, 
building connections for conservation with other Garden divisions and with 
local organizations. Maintains and manages the Center for Plant 
Conservation (CPC) living collections and records under the care of the 
Missouri Botanical Garden, researches and proposes plants for the National 
CPC collection, prepares annual reports and publications, and assists with 
educational activities and exhibits. Also conducts field work to collect 
propagules, propagates and established plants at the Garden and Shaw 
Nature Reserve or assists in monitoring restoration and reintroduction 
work in the wild. Participates in the local on-going invasive species 
programs. Seeks funding to support and expand the program

Ph.D. in conservation biology, ecology, botany or closely related 
discipline with experience and knowledge of plant conservation, taxonomy, 
and population genetics. Knowledge of collection techniques, propagation, 
cultivation and curation of rare plants and living collections. Excellent 
written and verbal communication skills. Familiarity with Midwestern flora 
is beneficial. Selected candidate must have authorization to work in the 
USA.
