Restoration Coordinator - Return of the Natives Restoration Education
Project (RON) is the education and outreach branch of the Watershed
Institute at CSU Monterey Bay, linking the disciplines of restoration
ecology and service learning into the field of community-based
restoration.

The Restoration Coordinator will manage, facilitate, and coordinate the
activities between the City of Salinas, citizens and volunteers
concerning the restoration of the Creeks of Salinas including Natividad,
Gabilan, and Sanborn Creeks and with the Bureau of Land Management
concerning restoration on Ft. Ord Public Lands during the 2004-2005
restoration cycle.

Other duties include, facilitate and organize the restoration of the
Salinas Creeks (in accordance with the Urban Streams II grant plans),
work with BLM-Ft. Ord Partners facilitate and organize Return of the
Natives' restoration program on Ft. Ord Public Lands, continue a working
partnership with the City of Salinas Department of Public Works/ Parks
divisions with regards to all aspects of the restoration project. Other
responsibilities include:

Develop a PR campaign to garner public support and volunteerism for the
restoration project especially the public plantings. . Develop a
landscape and restoration plan for each of the three creek sites .
Facilitate and supervise the planting events at each of the creek site
and on Ft. Ord Public Lands. . Develop a plan for the maintenance and
monitoring of the creek sites . Coordinate with the RON greenhouse
manager to develop a plant palate and plant list for each restoration
site.

Must have thorough knowledge of community based restoration, the
restoration cycle, native plants, landscape maintenance, including weed
control , ability to work with city officials and park workers. Writing
and communication skills are a must, as is the ability to speak in
public and manage groups of volunteers and workers. Demonstrated ability
to work independently and take direction.

Must be able to collaborate respectfully within the Watershed Institute/
RON structure. Must posses the ability and skill to maintain effective
communication with a wide range of individuals and entities. Must be
able to manage many projects simultaneously. Must have an ability to
develop new ideas collaboratively within a team setting. Applicant must
have a BA/BS. in environmental science, ecology, forestry, botany,
restoration ecology, wild-lands management, or other applicable field,
OR a minimum of two years experience in native plant restoration,
including leadership/management experience. Must have a California
driver's license with valid California's Defensive Driving certificate
and proof of insurance. Ability to drive a 4x4 with trailer attachment.
Proficient with power tools including weed whacker, mowers, and
trimmers. Demonstrated ability to address the essential functions
associated with this position including the knowledge and abilities
identified above. Familiarity with the Salinas and Ft. Ord areas is a
plus.  Experience and/or desire to work with culturally and economically
diverse people. Public speaking ability. Spanish speaking a plus.
Previous work experience with children in a restoration setting. Willing
to work outdoors rain or shine. Basic knowledge of Monterey County
native plants.

The hiring salary for this position is $37,440 per year.  Please

This position is a full-time temporary position with an attractive
benefit package beginning on or around October 1, 2004 and extending for
