Subject: Plant Conservation in Bolivia

Dear Mrs. Kwong,
My name is Inka Montero, I am a biologist working at the "Friends of Nature Foundation" or "Fundación Amigos de la Naturaleza (FAN)" in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. FAN is a non-profit organisation, which is dedicated to the investigation and conservation of Bolivia´s biodiversity. Bolivia is one of the least botanically explored countries in the world. It is estimated that Bolivia has around 20,000 vascular plant species, thus placing it among the top 10-11 countries in the world with the largest number of plant species.

In FAN we are carrying out different projects on plant conservation. We are maintaining some 400 native species in the only scientific Live Plant Collection in the country with a focus on investigation and ex situ conservation. Also we are planning arborization proyects with native tree species and educational programs.

I read that the Plant Conservation Alliance is working in the United States. Nevertheless I would be honored to receive any suggestions regarding institutions who might be interested in supporting the work we do.

Kind regards,

Inka Montero
