Used in the floral greens industry. Exported primarily to the Netherlands
and Germany. The Dutch line tulip pots with it. It is also used around
the base of silk trees that you see in bank lobbies etc. On the east coast
youmore commonly see so-called "Spanish moss" used in floral pots, etc. I
was once at a Lunt Sterling exhibit at their factory and there was liberal
use of dried moss in some of their displays. A buyer/processor in West
Virginia paid $0.50 per pound for moss, dried it outdoors on racks, bagged
it in plastic bags and it retailed at Kmart for $1.40 for 4 oz. Many dried
flower and crafts stores will use or sell dried moss.

Thanks for an interesting article you forwarded. My ignorant question is,
"what is all this moss used for?" Can it be used as sphagnum moss is?

Please post:

Attached is an article from today's NY Times science section (Nov. 30,
2004). The original article in the paper has a couple of good photos. It's
a fair assessment of very complex issue.
